Dremel is something!

About the tool

The tool Dremel - has become a name for a whole class of devices, just as at the time, Xerox for copiers.

Although a wide variety of tools are now being sold under this brand, it has become known primarily for its compact and lightweight “drill” in the shape of a zucchini :)

The Austrian inventor Albert J. Dremel immigrated to the United States in 1932 and founded the Dremel Company there, since 1993 it belongs to Bosch.

The Dremel tool has countless examples of applications at home, I will list only a few of them: cutting plastic and metal pipes, cutting and polishing wood, drilling, carving on wood or bone, engraving, polishing any materials including glass, sharpening, cleaning surfaces, work with jewelry materials, there is even a nozzle for trimming dog's claws, etc.

On YouTube, you can find a huge number of videos on how to use Dremel, for example how to polish.

Of course, such popularity of the instrument is jealous and you can find many clones, but the principle of operation and purpose are the same.

For myself, I purchased the original Dremel for one very important reason: I wanted to be able to work in the fresh air, climb, and crawl anywhere and at any height, which means I need a version with a battery. Unfortunately, I did not find a powerful enough and good non-Dremel clone.

There are several battery devices in the Dremel assortment: 7300, 7700, 7760, 8050 Micro, 8100, 8220. Everything below 8050 looks like toys, but I wanted something that would cope with metal cutting while not too bulky to easily hold the instrument with one hand for fine work.

As a result, I chose the Dremel 8050 Micro.

After 1.5 years of use, the battery lost some capacity. It's possible to change the battery however it's not standard and has rare form factor 14650.

But I decided to replace it with a more advanced version Dremel 8220. I can admit it's much better and powerful and I totally recommend it.

There are other models similar to 8220 that are on the market Dremel 8240 and Dremel 8260. They are a bit more advanced and eventually replace the 8220.

Please be sure that the battery for Dremel 8220 is not fit to the Bosch 12V drill or vice versa however they look very similar.

Accessories for the tool.

A great variety of original Dremel accessories are sold both individually and in sets. Buying sets is significantly more profitable. Below you can find a couple of successful sets.

Dremel 724 : The most successful starter kit if you bought a Dremel without accessories. There is just a little bit for cutting, grinding, polishing, sharpening, engraving. The kit comes with an excellent polishing paste. Recommend.

Dremel 725 : Set of 70 accessories. It will be interesting for those who are actively grinding and working with metals. I was especially attracted by the wood cutting disc (yellow), plastic cutting a thin cutting disc for metals, and grinding discs for a very convenient EZ click nozzle.

China also produces a lot of Dremel-compatible accessories, they are not far behind and their prices are very good. And even if they serve half as much as the original, it will still be much more profitable at the end.
